In 1997, the highest budget movie of all time (until 1997), Titanic is released. Everbody must know the most classical quotation in Titanic, which Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) has said, "I am the king of the world". This quotation is absolutely suited this film. At the beginning, everybody thought Titanic will not received a flying colour in box office, because of its extremely high budget.
On its opening weekend, just as many people have expected before, only received US$28,639,131 (this was categoried as low for a mega movie at that time). But after a while, a totally unexpected miracle happened--Titanic just dropped less at next weekends, sometime will increse, and it maintained over US$20,000,000 for many weekends, and it stayed on the position of #1 in U.S Box Office for consecutive 15 weekends (the most consecutive weekends ever). This phenomena was also happened in many countries of worldwide, this made the box office of Titanic reached an impossible state -- US$1,843,201,268! This record hugely broken the record of former champion before, Jurassic Park (only US$914,691,118). After the result of Titanic came out, many people thought it is impossible broken the record of Titanic for the next 30 or more years, because the second high only US$1.1 billion.
But after 12 years, James Cameron, the director of Titanic, broken the record of Titanic by his own hand with his newest movie -- Avatar! At the beginning, many people including me did not have a good hope that Avatar can break the record of Titanic, because almost all the mega movies after 21st century were not longevity. After the result of opening weekend in U.S. came out, I became more disappointed, only US$77,025,481! It's not high enough.
But after the first weekend, looked like the movies of James Cameron have longevity magic, another miracle liked Titanic was appeared on Avatar. Its second weekend just dropped a little, remained over US$70 million (US$75,617,183). At the third and late weekends, Avatar just dropped a little percentage in U.S Box Office, and it was consecutive weekends #1 movie of U.S. Box Office for 6 weekends until now, never one movie of 2000s had such as many consecutive #1! This miracle phenomena, just like Titanic, also appeared in many countries of worldwide. These made the box office of Avatar, increased like a rocket, just in 39 days, has broken the record of Titanic. For 40 days (26 Jan 2010), its box office has reached US$1,878,025,999! I guessed its box office in U.S. will break the record of Titanic in 2 weeks and finally reached over US$700 million, and its final subtotal box office of all countries will reach US$2.4 billion!
I have decided to watch Avatar once more again, this is the first time for me to watch the same movie in cinema for over one time. This time I will watch 3D version, maybe at 31st Jan or CNY holiday. Everbody said its 3D visual effect was very brilliant, so I must see at least once, or I will be regret for my whole life!
